A strength of Habersham County is its diverse population.  Adding to the culture, workforce, and dynamics, the county enjoys  Latino/Hispanic, Asian, and African American populations.  Habersham Countians take pride in home ownership with 76% of the residents owning their own home.  The 2000 index crime rate (crimes per 1,000) for Habersham County was 1.4. Statewide, in 2000, the rate was 3.4. Of the total index crimes reported, 6.3% were violent crimes, while 93.7% were property crimes.
