About us
Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) - Greater Atlanta, GA Area - is a Residential Christian Boarding School Transforming the Lives of Teens in Crisis. Shepherds Hill Academy uniquely offers a Therapeutic Wilderness environment. Its campus is located in Georgia where the ministry helps teens who are dealing with behavioral difficulties. Shepherds Hill Academy is a loving, Christian therapeutic wilderness style program and accredited school with a focus on person-to-person mentoring and spiritual and biblical counsel. The program intentionally uses the outdoors and primitive living as an alternative to conventional treatment environments, removing modern distractions, and simplifying choices. Each resident at Shepherds Hill Academy is taught survival techniques, teamwork and valuable back-to-basics life lessons in nature, right along with furthering their education and gaining biblical knowledge. Students learn to look to God for life direction, accept responsibility for personal decisions, address individual and family issues, and become invested in their own personal and academic growth. What are my hopes with NATSAP regarding advocacy? To strive to elevate care standards through work within our societal frameworks, including associations, accreditations, and political systems. By engaging in NATSAP’s advocacy, I aim to advance policies supporting clients, patients, students, families, clinicians, and programs nationally, for safer, more effective, and more accessible therapeutic care. Empowering families to make informed decisions and ensuring the safety of all involved are central to the efforts. To embrace bipartisan support, aiming for continual improvement and a future of enhanced care each day. Together, we can work to overcome historical challenges in behavioral healthcare, ensuring services are accessible and effective for all. Legislative Priorities: 1. Increased Funding and Accessibility • Objective: Broaden access to mental health services. • Action: Push for more funding at state and federal levels, focusing on underserved areas. 2. Regulation and Standards • Objective: Elevate care and accountability standards. • Action: Establish and enforce national quality and safety standards. 3. Mental Health Parity • Objective: Ensure equal coverage for mental and physical health. • Action: Strengthen enforcement of parity laws and advocate for legislation to eliminate disparities. 4. Addressing Mental Health and Social Crises • Objective: Address crises such as mental health, opiates, and homelessness with dignity. • Action: Promote service models that respect rights and reduce negative outcomes. 5. Support for Trauma-Informed Practices • Objective: Promote trauma-informed care to improve service quality and prevent trauma. • Action: Support legislation for trauma-informed training and measures. 6. Rights Protections • Objective: Safeguard client and patient rights. • Action: Lobby for stringent protection laws in all therapeutic settings. 7. Family and Parental Support • Objective: Support families in therapeutic processes. • Action: Push for resources and counseling that aid in making informed care decisions. 8. Workforce Development • Objective: Address the shortage of qualified professionals. • Action: Support funding for training programs and incentives to honor existing compassionate care providers and attract talent. Through these initiatives, I hope that together we can enhance how therapeutic and educational services are delivered, setting the stage for long-term improvements.

🐰🌟 Exciting News at Shepherds Hill Academy! 🌟🐰 We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our therapy animal team: Teddy the Therapy Bunny! 🎉 Teddy has hopped his way into our hearts, bringing joy, comfort, and endless snuggles to our students and staff. 🐾 We owe a huge thank you to Peppermint Rose Ranch near Commerce, GA, for providing Teddy to us and for their ongoing support and guidance.🏡 But that's not all! Our Ag class took on an amazing project: they designed and built a spectacular rabbit hutch for Teddy, more like a royal castle! 👑🏰 One of our talented students designed the blueprints, and the entire class learned invaluable skills like welding, woodworking, and bringing a blueprint to life. 🛠️📐 Now, Teddy resides in his luxurious new home, being spoiled by all the love and attention from our students. And in return, he's showering them with cuddles and companionship. 🥰🐰 Research has shown that therapeutic animals, like Teddy, can have a profound impact on adolescents' well-being. Interacting with animals has been linked to reduced stress, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness. 🌟 The presence of animals can also promote empathy, improve mood, and enhance social skills. We couldn't be more grateful for the positive impact Teddy has already made here at SHA.
